Magical exoticism

November 22, 2010

Inspired by the architecture of her travels, and her home town of Oxford, Emmie van Biervliet creates exquisite, original mixed media pieces.

Her layering of materials, as diverse as gold leaf, wallpaper and even lentils, echoes the significance of the history and memories surrounding a particular place.

We have a stunning collection of her work, already creating a buzz in the gallery, which really has to be seen.

As part of our 10th anniversary celebrations we are thrilled to launch a new collection of jewellery at Inspires. We have spent time sourcing work from the very best in contemporary jewellers and have brought together an exceptional collection, ranging from the graceful porcelain creations of Ruth Tomlinson, to the truly individual work of Indian jeweller Poppy Dandiya.

A Stitch in Time….

November 11, 2010

Focusing on memory and a sense of place, Lisa Traxler makes intricate stitched collages using a combination of photography, painting and stitch. Her expressive use of colour and texture creates depth and a sense of energy on the paper that is truly engaging even in her smaller scale work.

We currently have three beautiful collages in the gallery and are planning a joint exhibition of Lisa’s work with ceramicist Matthew Chambers later in 2011.

A date for the diary for next March!

Inspires Art Gallery is delighted to be one of only 20 galleries in the country hosting the BHF Mending Broken Hearts exhibition, featuring the work of prominent contemporary artists such as Peter Blake, Barbara Rae and Donald Hamilton Fraser. All of the artwork has been made especially for the exhibition around the theme of mending broken hearts to mark BHF’s 50th anniversary.

This promises to be a fascinating exhibition and, with all profits going towards the BHF, a perfect time to invest in a beautiful piece of artwork!

Check our blog closer to the time for any new developments.

Warrior Universe

October 16, 2010

‘Warrior Universe’ is John Hoyland’s most recent piece of work, and we have one of the 100 limited edition prints on show in the gallery.

As with many of his paintings, all space and movement emanates from a central nucleus, turning each one into a mysterious, turbulent universe full of colour and texture.

New to Inspires is Jason Keeley, whose background in graphic design gives his work a refreshing originality. His limited edition silkscreen prints have evolved through a combination of photographic and digital techniques and, with minimal information, he conveys the movement and energy of the human figure in dramatic style. We have four stunning pieces of his work on show in the gallery.

Exhibition of Egg Tempera work

September 30, 2010

From 9th – 24th October we will be exhibiting a selection of egg tempera paintings by Buckinghamshire-based artist Patricia Lynch.

Patricia has developed her own contemporary approach to this ancient technique, and creates exquisite paintings exploring landscape, the human figure and still life.

This promises to be a must-see exhibition.

‘I Love You’

September 29, 2010

We’re excited to exhibit two of Peter Blake’s dazzling diamond dust ‘I Love You’ prints at Inspires.

Peter’s fascination with pop culture is fundamental to his work, and is evident here in his collage of found typefaces.

Available in black and white, these stunning pieces are his latest release and, at over a metre long, are well worth seeing.
